EULA
Short version: the plain-English licensing summary is faithful but informal. This is the binding legal text. If the two ever conflict, this controls.
Plain English Summary
This summary is not a substitute for the full legal terms below, but it correctly describes what you can and cannot do under this license. If anything in the legal terms below contradicts this summary, the legal terms control.
You can:
- Install and use WorldSlate on any number of computers you personally own or use. One license = one person. A studio with five developers needs five licenses.
- Use WorldSlate to author worlds for any purpose, including commercial games.
- Ship the WorldSlate Runtime (the
.gdand.cssource files generated by "Open in Godot" or "Open in Unity") as part of your compiled games, on any platform, without paying further fees and without requiring attribution beyond a single credit line in your game's documentation or credits screen if you want to. - Modify the WorldSlate Runtime files as needed for your projects.
- Use the Included Sprite Library freely in any game, marketing material, or other project, with no restrictions and no attribution required.
- Educators — if you want to use WorldSlate for classroom instruction or academic coursework where students need hands-on access, email inidar@worldslatestudio.com to request an educational license. Terms are arranged per program.
You cannot:
- Resell, redistribute, sublicense, rent, lease, or share WorldSlate (the editor) itself with anyone outside your single licensed individual or entity.
- Redistribute the WorldSlate Runtime as a standalone library, plugin, asset pack, or development tool. The Runtime ships only as part of your finished games.
- Reverse-engineer or decompile the WorldSlate editor.
- Remove or alter copyright notices in WorldSlate-authored files.

1. Parties and Subject Matter
1.1 This End-User License Agreement ("EULA") is a binding legal agreement between you (either an individual or a single legal entity, "Licensee") and JMPLaunch, operating as World Slate Studio ("Licensor"), concerning the software product known as WorldSlate, including the editor application, the WorldSlate Runtime files, accompanying documentation, and any updates or supplements provided by Licensor (collectively, the "SOFTWARE PRODUCT").
1.2 By installing, copying, accessing, downloading, or otherwise using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, Licensee agrees to be bound by the terms of this EULA. If Licensee does not agree to these terms, Licensee must not install, copy, or use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and is entitled to a refund in accordance with Section 1.4 below or the refund policy of the platform from which the SOFTWARE PRODUCT was acquired, whichever is more favorable to Licensee.
1.3 The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed, not sold. Licensor retains all rights not expressly granted in this EULA.
1.4 Refund Policy. Independent of any platform-specific refund policy, Licensor offers Licensee a no-fault refund within fourteen (14) days of original purchase, provided Licensee has not distributed any Licensed Games containing the WorldSlate Runtime during that period. Refund requests should be sent to contact@worldslatestudio.com.
2. Definitions
"WorldSlate Editor" means the standalone application binary distributed by Licensor that runs on Licensee's computer and allows Licensee to author procedurally-generated 2D worlds.
"WorldSlate Runtime" means the .gd (GDScript) and .cs (C#) source files distributed by the WorldSlate Editor's "Open in Godot" or "Open in Unity" export functions, intended to be incorporated into Licensee's game projects.
"Included Sprite Library" means the collection of SVG image assets bundled with the SOFTWARE PRODUCT for use as world content. The Included Sprite Library is third-party public-domain content; see Section 6 for its specific license terms.
"Licensed Game" means any electronic application, video game, simulation, or interactive digital media authored by Licensee using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, including any games developed for distribution to end users.
"End User" means any person who acquires, downloads, or runs a Licensed Game distributed by Licensee.
3. Grant of License — WorldSlate Editor
3.1 Installation and Use. Licensor grants Licensee a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license to install and use the WorldSlate Editor on any number of computers owned or controlled by Licensee, provided that all such use is performed by a single named individual (the "Licensed User"). If the Licensee is a legal entity, the Licensee must designate one specific individual employee or contractor as the Licensed User; the license does not extend to other employees, contractors, or affiliates of the entity. Additional Licensed Users require additional licenses, one per seat.
3.2 Backup Copies. Licensee may make copies of the WorldSlate Editor as necessary for backup, archival, or version-control purposes.
3.3 Single Seat. Each license granted under this EULA covers one Licensed User. Multi-developer teams must acquire one license per active developer. Licensor may, in future versions, offer Team or Studio license tiers that cover multiple seats under one purchase; those tiers, if introduced, are governed by their own terms. Educational licenses for classroom and academic use are addressed separately in Section 3.4.
3.4 Educational Licenses. Licensor offers educational licenses for classroom instruction, academic coursework, workshops, and other formally educational programs where students require hands-on access to the WorldSlate Editor (distinct from the educational presentation uses covered in Section 7.4, which do not require students to operate the SOFTWARE PRODUCT themselves). Educational licenses are not granted by default under this EULA. To request one, an educator or institution must email inidar@worldslatestudio.com with details of the educational program, the institution, the number of students, and the intended use. Terms of any educational license — including seat counts, duration, fees (if any), permitted student access, and renewal — are determined by Licensor on a per-request basis and may differ from the single-seat model in Sections 3.1 through 3.3. Licensor is under no obligation to grant an educational license, and any license granted under this Section may be subject to its own written terms that supplement or, where explicitly stated, supersede this EULA.
4. Grant of License — WorldSlate Runtime
4.1 Use, Modification, and Distribution in Licensed Games. Licensor grants Licensee a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to:
- (a) incorporate the WorldSlate Runtime, in source or compiled form, into Licensed Games;
- (b) modify the WorldSlate Runtime as needed for Licensed Games;
- (c) reproduce, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, and sublicense the WorldSlate Runtime as incorporated and embedded in Licensed Games, including in compiled, packaged, or installable forms of those games on any platform (desktop, web, console, mobile, or other);
- (d) commercialize Licensed Games containing the WorldSlate Runtime, including via direct sale, in-app purchases, advertising, subscriptions, or any other monetization model.
4.2 Attribution. No attribution is required for use of the WorldSlate Runtime in Licensed Games. Licensee may, but is not required to, include a credit such as "World generation powered by WorldSlate" in their game's credits or documentation.
4.3 Restrictions on the Runtime. Licensee may NOT:
- (a) redistribute the WorldSlate Runtime as a standalone library, plugin, asset pack, code sample, tutorial repository, or development tool, separate from a Licensed Game;
- (b) sublicense the WorldSlate Runtime for use in any product other than a Licensed Game;
- (c) distribute the WorldSlate Runtime, modified or unmodified, in a manner that would allow third parties to use the Runtime to build their own games or tools without independently acquiring a license to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT;
- (d) remove copyright notices from WorldSlate Runtime source files. Licensee may add their own additional copyright notices.
5. Source Code Stance
5.1 WorldSlate Editor — Closed Source. The source code of the WorldSlate Editor is the confidential and proprietary property of Licensor and is not distributed with the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. Licensee shall not reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the WorldSlate Editor, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by mandatory applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.
5.2 WorldSlate Runtime — Source Available. The source code of the WorldSlate Runtime IS distributed to Licensee as .gd and .cs files via the export functions of the WorldSlate Editor. Licensee may read, compile, and modify these files for use in Licensed Games. The WorldSlate Runtime source code remains the intellectual property of Licensor and is licensed (not sold) under the terms of Section 4.
6. Included Sprite Library
The Included Sprite Library bundled with the SOFTWARE PRODUCT consists of third-party public-domain content. Licensor does not claim ownership of these sprites and does not warrant their public-domain status, copyright provenance, or fitness for any purpose. Licensee may use, modify, redistribute, and incorporate the Included Sprite Library in any project for any purpose, without restriction and without attribution.
7. Permitted Uses
The following are expressly Permitted Uses of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, subject to the restrictions in Section 8 (Prohibited Uses):
7.1 Authoring procedurally-generated worlds, levels, and game content using the WorldSlate Editor.
7.2 Creating, developing, and publishing Licensed Games (commercial or non-commercial) that incorporate the WorldSlate Runtime and the worlds authored using the WorldSlate Editor.
7.3 Marketing, advertising, and promotional activities for Licensed Games, including the use of screenshots, video footage, and gameplay captures of worlds authored with the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
7.4 Educational, demonstration, or tutorial uses of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, including written articles, video tutorials, livestreams, and conference presentations describing or demonstrating the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, provided that such uses do not redistribute the SOFTWARE PRODUCT itself.
7.5 Sharing project files (.worldslate files) authored by Licensee with collaborators on the same project, provided each collaborator independently holds a valid license to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
8. Prohibited Uses
The following are expressly Prohibited Uses. Licensee may NOT:
8.1 Resell, redistribute, rent, lease, lend, sublicense, gift, transfer, or otherwise make the WorldSlate Editor available to any third party.
8.2 Redistribute the WorldSlate Runtime as a standalone library, plugin, asset pack, code sample repository, or development tool, separate from a Licensed Game (see Section 4.3).
8.3 Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the WorldSlate Editor (see Section 5.1).
8.4 Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary-rights notice on or embedded within the SOFTWARE PRODUCT or WorldSlate Runtime source files.
8.5 Use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT to develop a competing world-generation tool, world-design editor, or similar product intended for sale, license, or distribution to other developers as a standalone generation tool. This restriction does not prohibit Licensee from exposing world-generation features to End Users within a Licensed Game (for example: in-game level editors, player-driven world generation, modding interfaces, or workshop-style content), provided that the WorldSlate Runtime is not redistributed in a form that allows independent commercial use as a development tool by parties who have not licensed the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.
8.6 Use the WorldSlate name, logo, or other Licensor branding in marketing or commerce in a manner that suggests endorsement, partnership, or affiliation with Licensor, except for descriptive use such as "Made with WorldSlate" or "Compatible with WorldSlate."
8.7 Use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, the WorldSlate Editor, the WorldSlate Runtime source code, the Included Sprite Library, or any associated documentation as training data, dataset content, or model inputs for the development, training, or fine-tuning of any artificial intelligence or machine learning model. This restriction includes the gathering, aggregation, extraction, or scraping of any of the foregoing for such purposes, whether commercial or non-commercial. This restriction does not affect Licensee's right to use AI or machine-learning technology within a Licensed Game (for example: NPC behavior, gameplay assistance, runtime content generation), so long as such use does not involve scraping, replicating, or otherwise using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT itself as training input.
8.8 Use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT in any manner that violates applicable law in Licensee's jurisdiction.
9. Updates and Support
9.1 Updates. Licensor may, at its discretion, provide updates, patches, bug fixes, or new versions of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT ("Updates") to Licensee. Updates are part of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and are subject to this EULA. Licensor is not obligated to provide Updates.
9.2 Support. Licensor may, at its discretion, provide informal support to Licensee through Licensor's Discord server, email, or other communication channels. Licensor is not contractually obligated to provide support, and any support provided is on a best-efforts basis.
9.3 Future Tier Changes. Licensor reserves the right to introduce additional license tiers (e.g., team licenses, enterprise licenses) for future versions of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. Such future tiers will not retroactively affect this EULA for licenses already acquired by Licensee.
10. Intellectual Property
10.1 All title and intellectual property rights in and to the WorldSlate Editor and the WorldSlate Runtime, including all copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and any other intellectual property rights, are owned by Licensor.
10.2 Worlds, project files, levels, and game content authored by Licensee using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT are the intellectual property of Licensee. Licensor claims no ownership interest in Licensee's authored content.
10.3 All rights not expressly granted to Licensee in this EULA are reserved by Licensor.
11. Termination
11.1 This EULA is effective until terminated.
11.2 Licensee may terminate this EULA at any time by destroying all copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT in Licensee's possession.
11.3 Licensor may terminate this EULA, without notice, if Licensee materially breaches any term of this EULA. Upon termination by Licensor for breach, Licensee must:
- (a) immediately cease all use of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT;
- (b) destroy or delete all copies of the WorldSlate Editor and the WorldSlate Runtime in Licensee's possession;
- (c) confirm such destruction in writing to Licensor upon request.
11.4 Termination does not affect Licensed Games already developed, distributed, or sold by Licensee prior to termination. The license granted in Section 4 (Grant of License — WorldSlate Runtime) for Licensed Games already shipped before termination shall survive termination of this EULA, provided Licensee was in good standing under this EULA at the time those Licensed Games were shipped.
11.5 Sections 6 (Included Sprite Library), 10 (Intellectual Property), 12 (No Warranties), 13 (Limitation of Liability), and 14 (Governing Law) survive termination.
12. No Warranties
12.1 THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW. LICENSOR EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY.
12.2 LICENSOR DOES NOT WARRANT THAT:
- (a) THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT WILL MEET LICENSEE'S REQUIREMENTS;
- (b) THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE;
- (c) DEFECTS IN THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT WILL BE CORRECTED;
- (d) ANY CONTENT, OUTPUTS, OR RESULTS PRODUCED BY THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT WILL BE ACCURATE, RELIABLE, OR FIT FOR ANY PURPOSE.
12.3 LICENSOR MAKES NO WARRANTY THAT THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT IS FREE OF VIRUSES, MALWARE, OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
12.4 Not for Critical Systems. THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE IN THE OPERATION OF NUCLEAR FACILITIES, LIFE-SUPPORT SYSTEMS, EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, AIRCRAFT NAVIGATION, AIR-TRAFFIC CONTROL, OR ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES IN WHICH THE FAILURE OF THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT COULD LEAD TO DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY, OR SEVERE PHYSICAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE.
13. Limitation of Liability
13.1 TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL LICENSOR BE LIABLE TO LICENSEE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOST PROFITS; LOST REVENUE; LOST DATA; LOST GOODWILL; BUSINESS INTERRUPTION; OR THE COST OF PROCURING SUBSTITUTE PRODUCTS, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH LICENSEE'S USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, EVEN IF LICENSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
13.2 LICENSOR'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO LICENSEE FROM ALL CAUSES OF ACTION AND UNDER ALL THEORIES OF LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY LICENSEE TO LICENSOR FOR THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY.
13.3 THE FOREGOING LIMITATIONS APPLY EVEN IF ANY LIMITED REMEDY SPECIFIED IN THIS EULA IS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.
13.4 Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liability. To the extent that such exclusions or limitations are not permitted in Licensee's jurisdiction, the relevant exclusions and limitations shall apply only to the maximum extent permitted by such law.
14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
14.1 This EULA shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
14.2 Any dispute arising out of or relating to this EULA shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the Province of Ontario, Canada, and Licensee consents to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
14.3 The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods shall not apply to this EULA.
15. General Provisions
15.1 Entire Agreement. This EULA constitutes the entire agreement between Licensor and Licensee concerning the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and supersedes any prior or contemporaneous agreements, communications, or understandings, whether written or oral, regarding the same subject matter.
15.2 Severability. If any provision of this EULA is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
15.3 No Waiver. The failure of Licensor to enforce any right or provision of this EULA shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
15.4 Assignment. Licensee may not assign or transfer this EULA, or any rights or obligations under it, without Licensor's prior written consent. Licensor may assign this EULA freely.
15.5 Modifications. Licensor may modify this EULA from time to time. Modifications apply prospectively to new versions and updates of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. Continued use of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT after a modification constitutes Licensee's acceptance of the modified EULA. Licensee's rights under prior versions of this EULA for licenses already acquired remain governed by the version of this EULA in effect at the time of acquisition.
15.6 Third-Party Beneficiaries. This EULA does not create any third-party beneficiary rights, except that End Users of Licensed Games are intended third-party beneficiaries solely with respect to the Section 4 license grant for the WorldSlate Runtime as embedded in Licensed Games they have legitimately acquired.
15.7 Headings. Section headings in this EULA are for convenience only and have no legal effect.
